Light Commercial Vehicle Tuning and ECU Software
On light commercial vehicles the engine control unit (ECU) software is recalibrated on the vehicle's own original file. The original software is backed up; compatibility is confirmed by ECU type.
Light commercial vehicles work under load, in stop-start traffic and at high mileage. A Stage 1 remap recalibrates the fuel quantity, injection timing, boost pressure and torque limiter maps. The difference is felt most when loaded, on hills and when overtaking.
Manufacturers sell the same engine at several power levels in vans and minibuses; much of the difference between them is software. For the models below you can see the stock and Stage 1 power figures for every engine option on the model page.
On commercial vehicles the most frequent faults come from the emission systems: a particulate filter (DPF) blocked by urban use, a sooted EGR, and NOx sensor or pump faults in the AdBlue (SCR) system. When the vehicle goes into power derate the work stops; the cause is diagnosed first.
