Tractor AdBlue Fault: Symptoms, Causes and the ECU Solution by Brand

On Stage IV and Stage V tractors, NOx in the exhaust is cleaned by the AdBlue (SCR) system. When the system fails, the tractor first warns, then reduces power (derate), and on some models the engine cannot be restarted. At harvest or sowing time that means lost work. This guide covers the symptoms, the causes and the software solution for your brand.
Symptoms of an AdBlue fault
- AdBlue or SCR warning lamp on the dashboard
- Power reduction (derate) and a low rev limit after a set time
- A countdown such as “engine will not start in X hours”
- A sudden rise in AdBlue use, or no use at all
Most common causes
- NOx sensor failure (most common)
- AdBlue pump, tank heater or level sensor
- Crystallised dosing injector, poor-quality or frozen AdBlue
- Moisture or rodent damage in wiring and connectors
First checks
Check that the tank holds good-quality AdBlue, that it has not frozen in winter and that the connectors are sound. Clearing the fault code only hides the warning for a while; if the cause remains, the countdown starts again.
Software solution by brand
AdBlue / SCR software solutions are available at ECU Prime for tractor ECUs of these brands: Agrifac and Amazone, Arbos, Carraro, Case IH, Deutz-Fahr, Erkunt, Fendt, John Deere, Kubota, Landini and McCormick, Massey Ferguson, New Holland, SAME, Valtra. The brand pages also cover the AdBlue fault solution, for example Case IH AdBlue fault solution.
The ECU type depends on model year and engine. The exact type is confirmed from the ECU label or by reading it with a diagnostic tool; send a photo of the label on WhatsApp and we will tell you which file applies.
All brands: tractor tuning.
How it works
- Reading: upload the original file read with your tool, or visit one of our locations.
- Calibration: the file is prepared for the exact engine and ECU software version, checksum corrected; the original is archived.
- Application and check: fault scan and run / road test after writing.
Workshops get the same solutions through the ECU Prime file service.
Emission-related software is offered only for uses permitted by applicable law (off-road / closed-site use, racing, export, diagnostics); road use and inspection compliance are the owner’s responsibility.
