Volvo XC60, XC90, S60 D5 and D4 Chip Tuning: Bosch EDC17CP48, EDC17CP22 and EDC16C31

Volvo’s five-cylinder 2.4 D5 and 2.0 / 2.4 D4 diesel served for years in the XC60, XC90, XC70, S60, V70 and S80. Depending on model year the ECU is the Bosch EDC16C31, EDC17CP22 or EDC17CP48. Solutions from Stage 1 to DPF and EGR are available at ECU Prime on these ECUs.
Which ECU does your D5 / D4 use?
- Bosch EDC17CP48: Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3, EGR, emission package, speed limit (Vmax); combined Stage 1 + EGR.
- Bosch EDC17CP22: Stage 1, Stage 2, DPF, EGR, emission package and speed limit.
- Bosch EDC16C31: earlier D5. Stage 1, Stage 2, DPF, EGR, swirl (TVA) and emission package.
New four-cylinder D4 / D5 (Drive-E) and B-series mild-hybrid diesels use a different ECU; confirm from the label. Engine pages: XC60 2.4 D5 Stage 1, S60 2.4 D5 Stage 1. Models: XC60, XC90, XC70, S60, V70 and S80.
The ECU type depends on model year and engine. The exact type is confirmed from the ECU label or by reading it with a diagnostic tool; send a photo of the label on WhatsApp and we will tell you which file applies.
Common faults
- DPF loading and endless regeneration in city driving
- Sooted EGR valve and cooler, loss of pulling power
- AdBlue / SCR warning and NOx sensor failure
- Boost pressure fault and limp mode

How it works
- Reading: upload the original file read with your tool, or visit one of our locations.
- Calibration: the file is prepared for the exact engine and ECU software version, checksum corrected; the original is archived.
- Application and check: fault scan and run / road test after writing.
Workshops get the same solutions through the ECU Prime file service.
Emission-related software is offered only for uses permitted by applicable law (off-road / closed-site use, racing, export, diagnostics); road use and inspection compliance are the owner’s responsibility.
