Mercedes AdBlue Fault Solution: EDC17C66, CRD3 on Vito, Sprinter, C- and E-Class BlueTEC

On Mercedes BlueTEC diesels (Vito, Sprinter, C, E, ML / GLE) the most common fault is AdBlue: “AdBlue system fault”, the “engine start not possible in X km” warning and countdown. NOx sensors, the AdBlue pump, tank heater and dosing valve are the usual causes. AdBlue solutions are available at ECU Prime for Mercedes’ 2.1 and 3.0 V6 CDI ECUs.
Which engine, which ECU?
- 2.1 CDI (OM651), Bosch EDC17C66 and Delphi CRD3: AdBlue / SCR, Stage 1 + AdBlue, DPF, EGR and emission package.
- 3.0 V6 CDI (OM642), Bosch EDC17CP46 and EDC17CP57: ML / GLE 350, E 350, Sprinter 319: AdBlue / SCR, Stage 1 + AdBlue, DPF, EGR; combined Stage 1 + DPF + EGR + AdBlue.
- Earlier V6, Bosch EDC17CP10: Stage 1, Stage 2, DPF and emission package.
Why does the AdBlue fault come back?
- NOx sensor failure (engine-out and post-SCR)
- Failed AdBlue pump or tank heater
- Crystallisation in the dosing valve
- A cleared fault code returning because the cause was not fixed
For the new OM654 and OM656 see our MD1CP001 article, for trucks the Mercedes trucks page. Models: Vito, Sprinter, C-Class, E-Class, ML and GLE.
The ECU type depends on model year and engine. The exact type is confirmed from the ECU label or by reading it with a diagnostic tool; send a photo of the label on WhatsApp and we will tell you which file applies.
Service pages: Mercedes AdBlue fault solution, DPF fault solution, EGR fault solution.
How it works
- Reading: upload the original file read with your tool, or visit one of our locations.
- Calibration: the file is prepared for the exact engine and ECU software version, checksum corrected; the original is archived.
- Application and check: fault scan and run / road test after writing.
Workshops get the same solutions through the ECU Prime file service.
Emission-related software is offered only for uses permitted by applicable law (off-road / closed-site use, racing, export, diagnostics); road use and inspection compliance are the owner’s responsibility.
