Scania EMS S6, EMS S8 and EMS10 Software Solutions: The Engine ECU Can Now Be Read Through the Diagnostic Socket

Getting to the engine ECU on Scania trucks has usually meant removing the unit. In two announcements dated 7 and 9 October 2026, Autotuner introduced reading and writing through the diagnostic socket (OBD) for the Motorola EMS S6, Continental EMS S8 and Continental EMS10. The manufacturer states that these protocols are currently in beta.
What was announced?
- EMS S6 and EMS S8: Scania trucks from Euro 3 to Euro 6; the 4 Series (P124, R124, T124) and the P, G, R and S series, engines from 9 litres to the 16 litre V8.
- Scania agricultural and industrial engines using the same units (DC09, DC16) and Doosan / Develon construction machines: DX380 LC-7 and DX530 LC-7 excavators, DL420 and DL450 loaders.
- EMS10: new-generation Scania R and S series (DC13 and DC16 V8).
- Times given by the manufacturer: reading roughly 2.5 to 9.5 minutes, writing 5 to 10 minutes.
Why does it matter?
When the unit can be read without removal, the truck is off the road for less time and the job can be done where the vehicle stands. For fleet owners that means hours rather than a day. Because the protocols are in beta, reading is attempted first on each vehicle; if it does not succeed, the unit is read on the bench.
What is ready on our side?
- Motorola EMS S6 (Scania): AdBlue and EGR fault solutions
- Continental EMS S8 (Scania): Stage 1 power software
Two things stated plainly: we do not yet have a verified solution for EMS10, and our number of Scania entries is limited compared with passenger cars. So on Scania we start every job by looking at the vehicle's own file, and if the file is not suitable we say so at the outset. The same applies to Doosan / Develon machines.
How does the job work?
The original software is read and backed up. The solution is built on that file, written, and checked with the engine running. Because the original backup is kept, the vehicle can be returned to factory software at any time. For fleets and job sites we offer on-site service.
