About the VW Group 1.8 / 2.0 TSI and TFSI (EA888)
The EA888 family is the turbo petrol engine of the Golf GTI, Passat, Tiguan, Octavia RS, Leon FR/Cupra, A3, A4, A5, Q5 and many more. Injection and turbo hardware were updated across three generations while the basic architecture stayed the same. It is one of the most rewarding engines to remap.
How a Stage 1 remap works on the Audi Q5 8R 2.0 TFSI 225hp
Stage 1 recalibrates boost, ignition and fuelling within the limits of the original hardware. The torque gain spreads across the whole rev range and is most noticeable in the mid-range. On DSG cars clutch pressure and shift maps are treated as part of the whole.
Pre-remap checklist
- Oil consumption (a known issue on the first-generation 2.0 TSI) and the PCV valve.
- Timing chain tensioner on early generations.
- High-pressure fuel pump and injector health.
- Ignition coils, spark plugs and fuel quality.
This section is based on Prime Chiptuning workshop experience; the power and torque figures come from the catalogue measurement above.
