How Much Horsepower Does Chip Tuning Add? Realistic Expectations by Engine Type
The question we hear most: "How much horsepower will my car gain?" The answer depends mostly on the engine type.
1. Turbo diesel engines: the biggest gains
Turbo diesels such as TDI, BlueHDi, dCi, CRDi and Multijet respond best to a Stage 1 remap, with clear gains in power and especially torque. Examples: 2.0 TDI 150 hp, 1.5 BlueHDi 130 hp, 1.5 dCi 110 hp.
2. Turbo petrol engines: strong and noticeable
On engines such as TSI, TFSI, TGDI, PureTech and EcoBoost, boost pressure can be adjusted in software, so the gain is still clearly noticeable. Examples: 1.5 TSI 150 hp, 1.6 TGDI 197 hp.
3. Naturally aspirated petrol engines: limited
Without a turbo, there is less room for software to add power. On these cars the goal is mostly a smoother throttle response. We will not quote you unrealistic numbers.

Does Stage 1 harm the car?
Proper software stays within the strength limits of the engine and gearbox. Before tuning, the car's fault memory and maintenance condition are checked.
